Forest service closes campground because of bear activity
GREENVILLE, Tennessee (WDEF) – Forestry officials have closed an upper East Tennessee campground because of bear activity.
Officials in the Cherokee National Forest say campers are reporting dangerous bear encounters at Horse Creek Campground near Greenville.
So they are closing it until further notice.
And they are reminding us about food restrictions on humans where bears are present.
You can’t leave food, garbage or anything that will attract bears in the Cherokee National Forest.
You must leave unattended food in bear-resistant containers in a vehicle or suspended 12 feet off the ground.
They say the worst bear areas now are north of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
