Former Rainsville Major elected Speaker of the Alabama House

Nathaniel Ledbetter represents DeKalb County in the state legislature

MONTGOMERY, Alabama (WDEF) – Our region lost one important local figure in state politics this week when David Ralston from Blue Ridge decided not to seek another term as Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives.

But we got another one back Thursday evening.

Alabama House Republicans chose a representative from our part of the state to lead them next year.

Nathaniel Ledbetter was chosen as the next House Speaker for the Alabama Legislature.

The former mayor of Rainsville represents DeKalb County in the legislature.

He will replace current Speaker Mac McCutcheon who decided not to fun again.

Ledbetter had been a major booster for McCutcheon.

The new job won’t become official until lawmakers return for a new year next January.
