Fort Oglethorpe holds Veterans Day parade
FORT OGLETHORPE, Ga. (WDEF) — Fort Oglethorpe had their annual Veterans Day Parade along Lafayette road to honor those who served our country.
The parade stretched down Lafayette road and ended at the Fort Oglethorpe market for Veterans.
It finished with the popular farmers market at Stable 41.
Tourism Coordinator for the city of Fort Oglethorpe, Bobby Daniels, said, “Our Veterans Day Parade honoring those who have served. Our VCC council had put this together and they do a wonderful job and it all ended with a Veterans Day farmers market here at Stable 41, and it’s a chance for the community to come together, honor those that serve and grow together as one big family.”
The Veterans Day parade is something the people of Fort Oglethorpe hold close to their hearts especially with holidays being right around the corner.
“I think especially as we get close to Thanksgiving, there’s a lot of people that get overlooked that we should be thankful for. I think at the top of that list is veterans. We need to be thankful for what they’ve done for our country, for our freedom, for the fact we can have stuff like this… and having a parade and a market and a chance to come together to say thank you is the least we could do for these wonderful group of men and women who have served for us,” Daniels said.
Daniels said he loves the way the Fort Oglethorpe community feels like family and is able to come together to support any event that is happening in the area.
“Fort Oglethorpe really recognizes the fact we have something special here and getting together to celebrate our veterans. To gather in our open market, to rub elbows with your friends and your families that’s what this city is all about,” Daniels said.
