Foundation Honoring Pat Summitt on her Birthday
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WDEF)- A Tennessee legend would have turned 71 years old today.
Legendary Lady Vol head basketball coach Pat Summitt passed away from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease in June 20-16.
Alzheimer’s Disease is the most common form of dementia and progressively takes away a person’s ability to live.
Since her death, the Pat Summitt Foundation has been raising funds and awareness to support Alzheimer’s research and treatments.
The Director of Adavament for the Fouindation, Morgan Vance, said, “I don’t think we are not as far along as we hoped, but there have been some new medications that have been approved for use in the Alzheimer’s Disease space within the last several years. Again, those are not a cure.”
Vance adds that they are shifting some focus towards prevention earlier in life in promoting brain health.
They are aiming to raise $50,000 in her honor today.
