Four Hamilton County Schools to receive turf football fields

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) – Four schools in Hamilton County will soon be receiving turf football fields, Mayor Weston Wamp announced on Tuesday.

Those four schools are Tyner Academy, Ooltewah High School, Soddy Daisy High School and The Howard School.

In addition, the softball complex at Brainerd High School will be receiving upgrades as well.

“Leveling the playing field for student athletes at public schools across our county, from Soddy-Daisy to Howard, is a top priority of our administration,” said Mayor Wamp. “As a result of the county’s investment in turf fields, maintenance costs will go down, coaches will have more time to coach and mentor, and our communities will gain valuable recreation assets that can be used year-round.”

The funding for the athletic field upgrades comes from the Fund for Excellence.

On Wednesday, the County Commission will meet to decide whether to approve the funding.

“I think what is really important about this field is that it will be a community asset. As well as the fields at Tyner, at Ooltewah and Soddy Daisy,” said Hamilton County Mayor, Weston Wamp. “These fields can be used seven days a week by community organizations, so that different teams and bands can use it all the time.”

Hamilton County Schools and the Fund for Excellence stated that they plan to fund the installation of turf at all public high schools over the next few years.
