Frazier Avenue weekend traffic pattern extended

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The City of Chattanooga has extended the updated traffic pattern on Fraizer Avenue.

The new traffic pattern has been extended until Monday, January 8 at 7 a.m. The traffic pattern involves reducing Frazier to two lanes and reducing the speed to 25 mph on the weekends.

The city said that this will help them collect more data on the roadway, and it will help them determine any final changes to the street.

One business owner along Frazier was positive of the change.

“The new pattern and they’ve slowed it down… I think it has done a tremendous job on helping with the safety of pedestrians. The pattern they have out in the street is going to definitely help. Cutting down one lane on each side should help,” said David Rutherford, owner of Journey on the River. “I think they should drop the speed to 20 miles per hour. Make it more like what’s up there in Gatlinburg.”

The current traffic pattern was supposed to expire at the end of December.

It was put into place at the beginning of December after two pedestrians were struck and killed by a drunk driver the month prior.
