Free CARTA Fridays started January 5 in Chattanooga
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — CARTA is offering free bus rides to anyone for three days over the next three months.
January 5th was their first ‘Free Friday’ day.
It’s a promotion to convince the public of the benefits of taking bus to work instead of a vehicle.
A displayed bus was put at the Waterhouse Pavilion on Market Street between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. for a glance at the service.
“We are not just offering a ride on Fridays. We are inviting the community to embrace the convenience, comfort, and environmental benefits of riding with CARTA. It is a smart and sustainable choice for everyone’s daily commute,” said Jeff Smith, CARTA’s Interim Executive Director.
CARTA officials said they chose Fridays to offer the free rides because they believe it serves Chattanooga best.
They explained many Chattanoogans work, go shopping and attend medical appointments on Fridays.
Those are convenience, comfort and environmental benefits.
Board members say people are intrigued by the idea, but are intimidated to take that first ride.
Your next chance to catch a free ride is the first Friday in February and March.
