Freeman Cooper Weighs In On Same-Sex Benefits
We caught up with him by phone and he says he’s against the ordinance.
Cooper tells us the city will need to find an extra $2 million dollars to fund this benefit.
He wonders how they can afford it at this time.
Cooper says right now a committee is actually deciding on ways to cut the retirement pensions of police officers.
Cooper adds, "I’m appalled they’re even considering the matter. On a religious basis, not just on a cost basis. Not being heard on the religious matter is something that would not even be stood for on in a council meeting. But the common sense approach for citizens and the citizens that the council members supposed to represent, they need to think about the cost and they need to be honest with people about the cost."
Cooper voiced his concerns to city council members by writing a letter.
