From online to in-person: Ali Kay brings Fresh Paint Live to Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The vibrant world of art is taking center stage in Chattanooga this week.

Inside the Convention Center, nearly 250 artists have gathered from across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom for a unique two-day experience.

Imagine being able to learn from your favorite art teacher and finally meet them in person—alongside hundreds of other artists from around the world.

That’s exactly what’s happening at the Chattanooga Convention Center, where Ali Kay is hosting her “Fresh Paint Live” event.

Ali Kay, a professional artist and educator, is the visionary behind the gathering.

In 2020, she launched an online painting membership called Fresh Paint.

Over the past few years, Kay has brought painters together virtually, but now many of those connections are coming to life face-to-face.

“It’s like my heart grew three sizes today,” expressed Ali Kay, reflecting on the emotional impact of seeing her students and fellow artists in person. “It’s just such an incredible blessing and opportunity that I have—to be able to lead them into their new artistic journey and newfound confidence. I love hearing their stories and meeting them here.”

The convention offers hands-on workshops, live demonstrations, talks from guest speakers, and a wide variety of artistic vendors.

Organizers explained that the goal is to foster community, creativity, and courage among participants.

Volunteer and participant Bonnie Jones elaborated on the energy filling the convention halls: “The positivity and excitement that Ali has cultivated in her online following, and getting that here in person, has honestly been mind-blowing. Getting to be around all these amazing women painting together has been an unforgettable experience.”

Attendees also have the opportunity to showcase and even sell their work, something many find builds not just skills, but lasting confidence.

“You really—if you’re an artist and you would like to get in front of people, even to sell or just to show your work—it really just takes that little step,” explained artist Anthony Murrill. “Once you get your work in front of a couple of people, you start building confidence fast.”

The event is a two-day experience, offering both beginners and seasoned artists a chance to immerse themselves in a supportive, vibrant community.
