From The Archives: The 1992 Tennessee Aquarium Opening

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – This weekend, the Tennessee Aquarium celebrates their 30th birthday.
“On May 1, 1992, Chattanooga came together as the Tennessee Aquarium opened its doors, igniting the ‘Renaissance on the River.'”
So they are holding a Riverfront Celebration all day Saturday.
They will have family activities, music and fireworks at dark.

The dedication and opening of the Aquarium in 1992 was a really big deal.
The Governor and other dignitaries took part in opening the new facility and park at noon.
Then the doors opened for Chattanoogans to get their first look inside the project they had been hearing about for years.
