Gas prices continue to drop through the holiday in Chattanooga
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Travellers found a bargain if they bought gas in the Chattanooga area over the Fourth of July holiday.
Prices dropped another five cents in the area last week.
The average price of a gallon in Chattanooga is $1.93.
That is considerably cheaper than the gas around us.
The Knoxville average is $2.01, Huntsville $2.04 and the overall Tennessee price is around $2.05.
“Yesterday’s gas prices ended just as GasBuddy predicted a week ago: $2.27 per gallon nationally,” said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy. “While prices have come down, we now head to the time of year when hurricane season enters the picture. In the last couple of years we have seen minimal to no disruption as hurricane season largely went by with no major storms that hit land. Should we see a major hurricane enter the Gulf, gas prices may react. For the week ahead, expect much of the country to see prices continue to trickle lower” DeHaan said.
The lowest prices in Chattanooga now are in Middle Valley.
Both the Citgo and Kangaroo on Middle Valley Road have prices at $1.79.
Several stations in the Cleveland area are in the low $1.80s.
A RaceWay and Citgo on Highway 153 have $1.81 gas.
“Any way you slice it, this summer has featured the cheapest Memorial Day, July 4 and perhaps Labor Day in the last eleven years, and motorists have been responding by hitting the roads in record numbers, according to a GasBuddy study before the summer driving season began,” DeHaan noted.
