Gas Prices Continue Their Dive After Labor Day

Chattanooga (WDEF) –  Gas prices dropped another six cents nationally last week.

The national average is still well over two dollars ($2.34), but Chattanooga long ago broke the barrier.

Triple A reports the average price in Chattanooga is $1.89.

“Motorists should expect another week of discounts at the pump,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Oil prices remain especially low and gas prices are slowly catching up.”

The price of oil is forecast to remain low through the rest of the year due to shrinking demand now that the peak summer driving season is over.

In addition to low oil prices, the cost to produce gasoline will get even cheaper as refineries shift to winter-blend fuel. That shift is happening now, with a deadline of September 16.

The lowest prices in our area now are in Athens, Tennessee.

GasBuddy.com reports 3 stations there, the Kangaroo, Speedway & Murphy USA, all on Decatur Pike, have $1.69 gas.

In Chattanooga, once again, the best prices are at the Kangaroo & Murphy USA in Lookout Valley.  Their prices is $1.76.
