Gas prices impacting spending at the pump and the store

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee (WDEF)-  According to AAA, gas prices in Tennessee are up $0.13 from last week and almost a dollar more than this time last year.

“It’s just something that we have to roll with the punches and hopefully gas prices will drop at some point but I don’t think that’s gonna be any time soon,” said Mason Frierson.

“I’m paying about double what I used to pay for my gas to fill up. Everything is going up I mean gosh I got a gallon of milk yesterday and it was like five dollars and I’m like what,” said Jones.

High gas prices and other items increasing in price are causing some to cut back.

“Cut back on nonessentials not a lot of frivolous vetting like big expenses, fluffy stuff that you really don’t need, at least not right now,” said Jones.

“It’s definitely putting a real pinch on your wallet. You just have to make some sacrifices. I mean you really can’t drive too far, you must really conserve on gas,” said Frierson.

Others are seeing the high gas prices as more of a reason to switch to electric cars.

“Makes me so happy although I am sad there are those prices and I would love them to go down but I think the best way is to participate in trying to move away from gas,” said Catherine Whitson.
