Gas Prices Up Nationally, But Down Locally

Chattanooga (WDEF) Gas prices edged up again this week nationally, but started leveling off over the weekend.

The national average price is $2.29 a gallon.

"Gas prices fluctuated during the past couple of weeks, because gasoline demand is unusually high at a time when refineries are entering their maintenance season," said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. "Fortunately, the slight upward pressure on prices is typically short-lived and gasoline should get cheaper through the end of the year."

The prediction still holds that the national price will get near $2.00 by December.

In Tennessee, prices edged back over $2.00 mark by this weekend.

Chattanooga seems go be going against the national trend.

Our spike came last week, so prices slightly dropped here this week to $1.93.

GasBuddy.com reports the cheapest gas in the area is in Soddy Daisy.

A Kangaroo (8640 Dayton Pike & Montlake Rd)  Hi-Tech (8425 Dayton Pike near Summers Dr) & Murphy USA (9334 Dayton Pike & Meadowview Ln) all report $1.78 per gallon.

Athens has seen the cheapest gas in our area over the last month, but prices there have shot up to the $1.98 range in the last week.
