Gas Tax Passes in Tennessee Senate

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- It looks like we all will be  paying higher taxes for gasoline here in Tennessee.

Today, both state House members and Senators approved Governor Bill Haslam’s bill to raise the taxes.

The House vote was 60-to-37.

The Senate was 25-to-6.

The Governor wants to use the money for transportation funding.

The legislation would raise the gas tax by six cents for regular gasoline, and ten cents for diesel.

The bill also includes a cut in the sales tax on groceries, and the tax on earnings from stocks and bonds.
