UPDATE: GBI investigates officer involved shooting in Ringgold

RINGGOLD, Ga. (WDEF) – UPDATE: A G.B.I. spokesperson said that preliminary information indicates Ringgold Police Officer Anthony Thaxton fired several shots into the semi-tractor trailer.

They said the vehicle was driven by John Raymond Tabor and that a Ringgold patrol car was hit by the semi-tractor trailer, along with another semi-tractor trailer.

Ringgold Police Chief Dan Bilbrey requested them to conduct an investigation into the incident that happened behind Cochran’s truck stop.

The Georgia State Patrol investigated the accidents.

The G.B.I. will turn the investigation over to the Lookout Mountain District Attorney for review when complete.

PREVIOUS STORY: According to Ringgold Police, at around 9:30 Saturday night officers attempted to stop a stolen tractor-trailer on Interstate 75.

They said the driver then rammed one of the patrol vehicles and tried to run the officers over, and as a result, shots were fired.

Authorities said that there were no injuries and that the suspect is in custody.
