GBI investigating officer involved shooting in Catoosa County

UPDATE:

The GBI identifies the woman who was shot as 40 year old Jennifer Yates.  They say she is in critical, but stable condition.

They say Yates was firing a handgun and threatening to harm her family.

Officials added that when officers arrived, Yates refused to comply and aimed her gun at them.

That’s when officers fired and shot her.

They then gave her aid before transporting her to a hospital.

CATOOSA COUNTY, Georgia (WDEF) – The GBI will handle the case of a woman who was shot by a Catoosa County deputy last night.

It happened at a home at 219 Foster Lane in Ringgold around 6 p.m.

Officials say the sheriff and deputies were called for an armed woman who was threatening suicide.

They were told on the way that shots had been fired in the home.

When they arrived, they found a woman in the driveway with a gun in her hand.

Catoosa officials say she pointed the gun at them, and they opened fire.

The woman was taken to the hospital.
