Georgia approves one-time tax refunds following passage of House Bill 112
ATLANTA, Ga. (WDEF) — The state of Georgia will begin distributing one-time refunds to taxpayers in the coming weeks.
These refunds are coming from the recent passage of House Bill 112 during the 2025 legislative session.
Most eligible residents who filed both their 2023 and 2024 tax returns on time will receive the refund automatically.
“Because we’ve managed our state’s resources wisely, we’re again able to return money to hardworking Georgians who know how best to use it.”
-Governor Brian Kemp.
Refund amounts are based on 2023 tax liability and are capped at:
- $250 for single filers and married individuals filing separately
- $375 for head-of-household filers
- $500 for married couples filing jointly
To qualify, taxpayers must have filed the required returns, paid state income taxes, and not owe money to the Georgia Department of Revenue.
Taxpayers can verify their eligibility using the Surplus Tax Refund Eligibility Tool at the Georgia Tax Center.
