Georgia-Auburn Rivalry “Lay Your Guts on the Barbwire”

Before the season started, Georgia was picked to win the SEC East, and Auburn was picked to win the overall league title.
Neither team lived up to those expectations, but that shouldn’t take away from their annual rivalry Saturday at Jordan Hare Stadium.

The Georgia defense does not have a shut-out this year, but they have kept two SEC teams out of the end zone. Auburn doesn’t want to be the third.
Reporter-"What stands out about Georgia’s defense?"
Said Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn-"Talent. Defensively, top 15 in the country. They defended us probably better than anybody did all of last year."
Auburn is last in the SEC in total defense, but they gave up only ten points last week against Texas A&M.
Said defensive coordinator Will Muschamp-"I think pressure on the passer has been a little better. Our sacks have gone up, but I don’t get overly concerned with that. It’s more about affecting the quarterback."
Said Georgia tight end Jay Rome-"They’ve got some new guys back on defense. Anytime your are playing anybody in the SEC, their defense is going to be pretty big and pretty fast."
The Dawgs and Tigers have both shuffled quarterbacks this season. Coach Malzahn still isn’t sure who will start against Georgia since Sean White is fighting a knee injury.
Said Malzahn-"I think the big thing for everyone is we have confidence in both of them, and we should. We feel very good going into this game with our quarterback situation."
The Auburn-Georgia game may not be the biggest rivalry in the SEC, but it remains a classic battle.
Said Georgia defensive end Josh Dawson-"It would mean everything. This is my last year playing Auburn. As a competitor, I want to go out with a win."
Said Muschamp-"It’s modern day gladiators. It’s awesome. You go out there, and you compete. You lay your guts on the barbwire for four quarters, and see what happens. To be victorious in that locker room, there’s no feeling like it."
Auburn and Georgia kick at noon Saturday on WDEF News 12.
