Georgia Gets Career Day From Todd Gurley to Edge Rival Tennessee

Athens, GA (WDEF) Georgia had to be surprised to see a young Tennessee team come into their house and jump out to a 10-0 lead.

Said Georgia head coach Mark Richt,"They’re going to get better and better as the year goes on. We’re probably fortunate to play them early on."
Tennessee’s defense made life miserable for Hutson Mason and the Georgia offense. Mason had two picks, and the Dawgs converted only one of ten third downs.
Said Mason,"One little thing led to another. We couldn’t execute at all in the passing game. It’s very frustrating. It starts with me."
Said Vols linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin-"Been one of the top third down defenses in the country all year. That’s what we expect to do. We expect to get off the field on third downs, so it’s nothing new to us."
But Georgia still had Superman, or Todd Gurley.
The Heisman Trophy candidate ran like the ‘Man of Steel’ or should we say flew. Gurley had a career high 208-yards rushing.
Said Gurley,"We keep running on a team. They might stop you, but they’re getting tired deep down inside, so you just want to break that will and keep fighting."
Said Vols head coach Butch Jones,"Gurley is a great player. Really almost like preparing for the wishbone with the pullers and all the things you are going to see."
With Georgia up 21-17 in the third, Jordan Jenkins put a big hit on Vols quarterback Justin Worley, forcing Worley to leave the game.
Said Worley,"Something. I don’t know what it was from the helmet punched my elbow. Started bleeding a little bit. Arm went a little bit numb. Died on me a little bit."
‘Don’t Stop Believing’ was the Vols motto in the fourth quarter.
Worley returned with UT down 28-17, and he got his team in the end zone on a 31-yard pass to Pig Howard. But later with UT backed up at their one, Jalen Hurd fumbled the exchange. Josh Dawson pounced on it for a Dawgs touchdown.
Said Jones,"In order to continue to move forward and win games like this on the road, we just can’t have those catastrophic turnovers. And that was a catastrophic turnover."
Georgia hung on to win 35-32, and they celebrated with a few back-flips.
Said Gurley,"I think we actually tied the series with Tennessee. That five in-a-row? (over Tennessee)  We don’t like orange. We don’t like orange."
For Tennessee it was their 21st straight road loss against a ranked team.
Said Jones,"There are no moral victories. You either win or you lose, and we came up short. But I’m proud of these kids because I see the progress every day."
