Georgia Gov. Kemp extends state of emergency to suspend gas tax
ATLANTA, Ga. (WDEF) — On Friday, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp announced that he extended the gas tax suspension.
Kemp signed an executive order to extend the state of emergency. He did this because of high inflation and economic conditions, according to his office.
This suspends Georgia tax on fuel through November 11, 2023.
Governor Kemp originally signed the order to suspend gas tax on September 12. It would have expired on October 12 without the extension.
The average cost of gas in Georgia is currently at $3.18 per gallon, according to AAA. The price of fuel around North Georgia has dropped significantly since the gas price suspension.
The current average price per gallon of gas in North Georgia (Catoosa, Dade and Walker Counties) is $3.04 per gallon, according to AAA. That is down 45 cents, from $3.49, just a month ago.
“We’re taking action at the state level to deliver relief to hardworking Georgians fighting through Bidenflation, soaring interest rates, and sky-high prices due to Bidenomics,” said Governor Kemp. “Our state’s average gas price is now roughly 40 cents less than it was last month. With our partners in the General Assembly, we’ll keep working to put money back in the pockets of Georgia families.”
