Georgia House Speaker Kills Casino Bill

ATLANTA (WDEF) – The constitutional amendment that would have allowed casinos in Georgia died in the legislature on Monday.

And House Speaker David Ralston was the man who killed it.

The Blue Ridge Republican withdrew the two casino bills from the calendar on crossover day.

That is the day that a bill must be approved in one house or the other to continue on for the session.

The bills were supposed to come up for a vote last Friday, but the Speaker postponed the votes til Monday, and then pocketed them.

Ralston says his constituents back home are against casino gambling.

The bills laid out a plan that included 4 casinos in the state, 2 of them in the Atlanta area.

The proposal would have gone on the November ballot for voters to ultimately decide.
