Georgia officer arrested for sharing sensitive data in Tennessee drug case
WALKER COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — An officer is facing serious charges after allegedly leaking official information tied to a drug investigation in Tennessee.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) arrested 52-year-old Kenneth Rankin, an officer with the Georgia Department of Community Supervision, for Computer Theft and Violation of Oath of Office.
The case began in May 2025, when the Soddy Daisy Police Department in Tennessee contacted the GBI about a drug investigation out of Hamilton County.
According to the GBI, evidence from that investigation led to a related case in Georgia.
The GBI’s West Metro Regional Drug Enforcement Office opened a criminal probe and found that Rankin had improperly shared restricted law enforcement data with a suspect in the Tennessee case.
On June 10, 2025, with help from multiple agencies, Rankin was arrested in LaFayette, Georgia.
He was booked into the Walker County Jail.
