Georgia parole board surprises inmate with early release

FORSYTH, Ga. (AP) – State officials have surprised a 21-year-old Dublin man with an early release from prison.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Curtavious Keyon Gainey found out Thursday that he would be released from prison Friday, after serving two years of a five-year sentence for burglary.

Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles spokesman Steve Hayes says Gainey did more than stay out of trouble, while he was incarcerated at the Burruss Correctional Training Center in Forsyth. He also earned his high school diploma.

The parole board on Thursday made a public announcement of an inmate’s early release to inspire other inmates.

Hayes said the board wanted to show prisoners that a “road map to success” exists.
