Georgia QB Stetson Bennett Ready For Bama Rematch in National Title Game
After scooping up the Orange Bowl offensive MVP award last week, Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett eyes the big prize next week.
The national championship. Bennett is ready for the rematch with Bama for the national crown on Monday.
Georgia hasn’t won the national title since 1980.
Well before Stetson Bennett was born.
But history and legacy are not on Bennett’s mind ahead of Monday’s game.
Said Bennett:”You know do I know that this means a lot to a lot of people. Yes. Um. Am I trying to play some kind of savior by winning a national championship for millions of people. No. I don’t think that’s my job. My job is to go out there and throw completions to very talented people that we have on this team. Is it just another game? No. I’m not silly. I’m preparing my butt off. But the reason we are doing that is because we respect the heck out of Alabama and the team that they are .”
Speaking of Alabama, does Bennett expect a different Tide team in the rematch?
Said Bennett:”Would I prefer for Alabama if they are going to change anything up to send us an e-mail this week? I would love that. But I assume that they won’t. They’re not going to change up and go all Arkansas on us. They’re not going to do that. They’re going to be Alabama, and we’re going to be Georgia. We’re going to see who executes better.”
This is a Georgia team that doesn’t have sexy individual stats.
Zamir White was the Dawgs leading rusher and he finished 9th in the SEC in rushing.
Said Bennett:”Zamir doesn’t have the yardage and SEC ranking, but we’re in the national championship, and if we’re scoring points, and if we’re stopping people from scoring points, it doesn’t really matter who is getting the credit as long as the team is doing well. And I think our guys really understand that.”
