Georgia Young girl testifies against her molester

Experts say it's rare that victim so quickly reports abuse

SUMMERVILLE, Georgia (WDEF) – It didn’t take a jury long to side with a young girl who took the stand to testify that her mother’s boyfriend had molested her.

They convicted 33 year old Jonathan Michael Culberson of molestation and sexual battery of a child under 16.

The whole case just took two days in Chattooga County.

When he touched her in 2020, she immediately told her mother and Culberson fled to Alabama.

Prosecutors say that after his arrest, he admitted to the molestation in a phone call to the mother.

During the trial, an expert who interviews children testified that she rarely sees such an open and quick disclosure from a victim.

“This a brave, fierce little girl,” said Chris Arnt, Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney.

“I hope that the incredible work done by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office and Janet Burch with the Child Advocacy Center can help her and her family heal.”

The judge gave Culberson ten years in prison plus 15 more on the sex offender registry.
