GHSA Adding Shot Clock For High School Basketball Next Season

Georgia has become the ninth state in the country to implement the shot clock for high school basketball. It’ll start next season.

Every varsity level team will have 35 seconds for each possession. North Georgia’s top teams are excited about the new system.

Coaches think this will make the game more entertaining for fans and prepare players for an easier transition to college ball.

Said LaFayette head coach Hank Peppers:”I think it’s good for basketball across the board because it’s in college basketball for a reason. I think 35 seconds is a good number. We’re not doing the NBA 24 second clock, but I think the 35 seconds, it keeps the game up tempo. It eliminates the slow down, methodical, hold the ball type, and it makes you play. It forces you to play the game instead of stall the game, and there’s a difference.”
