Goats rescued from potential high waters

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – The familiar goats that have inhabited Maclellan island for the past several months had to be rescued today in fears of rising waters from the east.

The runoff from the Carolinas is expected to bring almost 300,000 gallons of water a second to the Tennessee river here in the coming weeks.

As part of an effort to cut back on invasive vegetation, the goats were relocated to the Maclellan Island by the Chattanooga Audubon Society in order to manage the overgrowing dangerous species in a less harmful way in order to preserve the native species of the Chattanooga area.

This rescue saved six goats along with a dog with the help of the Chattanooga Fire Department.

This rescue was also completed with extra help from a drone that was able to provide an aerial/up close view of and around the island.

Thankfully and successfully, the goats were brought to shore and are planned to be returned to their owner back on their farm.

The Tennessee Valley Authorities are urging residents to be careful and cautious on the Tennessee river this weekend due to dangerous potential waves.
