Goats will battle the plants on Maclellan Island

They are the next plan after a controlled burn failed

Maclellan Island

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – The Audubon Society hopes that goats will succeed where flames failed earlier this month.

They tried a controlled burn on Maclellan Island in the Tennessee River to control invasive plants.

But the fires they started quickly sputtered out when they hit the new spring growth.

So, they hope that goats are the answer.

The plan is to release them on the island in hopes they will eat the vines and shrubs.

They are asking the public to support the goat program with a $50 donation. Those who donate will receive a gift.

Major donors will be allowed to camp out on the island with the goats.
