Golden Apple Award: Adam Miller, East Hamilton Middle School

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — This week’s Golden Apple Award goes to Adam Miller from East Hamilton Middle School.

“Mr. Miller is just amazing teacher and band director. He is running an amazing program here at East Hamilton. Last year we had the most students in our county to be elected for the old city competition. We also have a jazz band program that Mr. Miller runs. We also have an amazing partnership with our high school,” Ashley Cox, EHMS Assistant Principal said.

“Mr. Miller is so amazing. He has great relationships with all of our students. Not just the students in his classroom. But he contributes to our culture here at our school by showing up every day and teaching all of our students to the best of his ability, Dr. Kelley Evett, EHMS Assistant Principal said.

“I really love teaching band. I love teaching. I’ve been a teacher for 25 years. This is my 25th year here. East Hamilton middle is my fourth year. I enjoy teaching music more than just about anything else. My father and my grandfather were banned directors. I’m a third generation band director. I have three kids and a wife. My wife is the instructional coach at Lookout Mountain elementary. My three kids are in the east Hamilton system. My oldest two go to East Hamilton high school. And my youngest goes to Westview elementary,” Miller said.

“He’s a really great teacher. And I had no clue how to play like a flute. When I first got here last year. And now I am playing sheets of music,” Amelia Waller, EHMS Band Teacher said.

“He is a good teacher and he helps people. He made me a better flute… person,” Lucas Sementz, 7th Grader, EHMS said.

“Would you like for the students that passed through your class to remember most about you?” David Moore, Chief Photographer asked.

“Come by and tell me how much you enjoyed both the learning process of music. But also the growth of going through a very difficult analog process. Where we are living in a digital reality world where AI is so easy to make anything happen. They have to put in the work and make the music themselves,” Miller said.
