Golden Apple Award: Anna Hutcherson, Soddy Daisy Middle School
SODDY DAISY, TN (WDEF) – Anna Hutcherson has a healthy respect for her Soddy Middle school students, but she also expects them to rise to their full potential every day, and Ms. Hutcherson has a habit of saying “yes” to new ideas. All that earned her this week’s Golden Apple Award.
“On behalf of Food City and news 12, I would like to present Anna Hutcherson, with this week’s Golden Apple teacher award. Thank you so much. She deserve it. Your certificate! So well deserved. Ah thank you”
“Miss Hutcherson is a lifelong learner. She is always wanting to learn better techniques and better strategies for her students. Um, she build relationships with her kids. She’s a coach. She’s a teacher. She’s a friend to them. She honestly cares,” said Deanne Mulder, Assistant Principal at Soddy Daisy Middle School.
“And it gives you all the instructions, the due date, everything you need to finish it.”
“Who is Anna Hutcherson? I’m, um I’m a reader. I love to read. I was joking the other day. I think I’ve already read 87 books this year. Um, I’m a lifelong learner. I love to learn things. And I love to be in school. I guess that’s why I’m still a teacher. My personal life my family is very supportive. I have two young kids. I have an eighth grader and a fourth grader myself. And and my husband, my parents, my sister, works in the building with me. My niece goes to school with me as well so, I get to see her. So we are a very tight-knit very supportive family,” said Anne Hutcherson, 8th Grade Language Arts Teacher at Soddy Daisy Middle School.
“She’s really helpful and she made, she not made, she helped me make a new word.”
“What’s that new word?”
“Uh tuner.”
“What does it mean?”
“Uh good idea.”
“Um she’s probably been my favorite teacher since I’ve gotten here. She’s very sweet and she understands.”
“She’s a very helpful and supportive teacher. And overall, I, I, would like… recommend her over like all the other English teachers I’ve had.”
“I just like that she’s really helpful to us. And that that she like teaches it very well. And that she’s just an overall good teacher.”
“Like she elaborates more like she helps us explain more.”
“I think I’ve always been a teacher. I didn’t start out as a teacher. My degree in college is not in education. But I have always been an educator. And no matter what I was doing and felt strongly drawn to the profession. And so I was fortunate enough to be able to go back to school and get my Master’s and actually have my own class room. And I think it’s one of those things that I I truly love,” said Hutcherson.
“She’s different because she actually like explains the work like some other teachers.”
“She teaches really well and she’s very nice to all the students.”
“She’s a coach so she’s energetic. And… uh, nice about things.”
“I see myself as a teacher in in all aspects of my life. I really want them to remember just, I maybe the why. The always taking it a step further and and finding out more information and explaining ourselves in a way that can make us be understood. And to listen to understand each other,” said Hutcherson.
