Golden Apple Award: Eric Barth, Hunter Middle School

OOLTEWAH, TN (WDEF) – Eric Barth has a gift for inspiring students both in the classroom and on the football field. The Ohio native has spent the last decade at Hunter Middle School. He’s the kind of person you hope your child grows up to be.

“So, Coach Bar um has been at Hunter um I think over 10 years and he is an integral part of our everyday life here. He coaches football. Um, he used to coach baseball. He teaches our PE classes,” Heidi Moses, Hunter Middle School Principal said.

“He gets to see almost all of our students every single day, which also includes our exceptional education students. Um, and so I think that is one of the the things that makes him great here is he is inclusive of everyone and makes sure that everybody has a a part in his class and can participate,” Moses said.

“He’s just a very kind and genuine person, and he cares about all of us,” Camden Rogers, Hunter Middle School 7th Grader said.

“He’s a role model of everything cuz he makes sure we do the right stuff even though other schools don’t,” Josiah Ralston, Hunter Middle School 7th Grader said.

“He’s just he makes PE and education fun. He’s just a really kind and genuine person and all,” Kenzlie Anderson, Hunter Middle School 7th Grader said.

“He’s a very positive person. He gives um out great um great information to us,” Takyri Gore, Hunter Middle School 7th Grader said.

“They’re learning, they’re growing. Uh you can cut up with them. Uh it’s a pretty uh impactful time of their life. So, it’s just it’s it’s fun being able to um just cut up with them and and get to know them and, and, learn more about them,” Eric Barth, Hunter Middle School Coach/PE Teacher said.

“Coach Bar is an integral part of what we do here at Hunter Middle School. He
truly represents what it means to be a Hunter Hawk. He includes our students in thinks of them in unique ways to make
sure that they are represented, that they are safe and welcomed here every single day. Uh we are so happy to have
Coach Bar as a part of our team. We could not do what we do every day without him,” Josh Goslowski, Hunter Middle School Assistant Principal said.

“Education has just kind of run in my family. Uh had my grandparents were teachers and my brother was in education. Uh and then I had really good uh teachers and coaches growing up. So I just wanted to continue that as I got older. I think in today’s day and age there’s just so many different um distractions and getting kids away from, you know, what’s important. And so I think being able to step in and and and learn about the kids and they can learn about you and, you know, have some sort of positive impact in their life. The ability just to to cut up with them and have fun and and have some sort of impact on them, you know, whether it’s in the gym, outside of school, on the football field, whatever it is, just to
to have u just a good relationship with them and and hopefully down the road they can look back in in time and say, you know, Coach Barwood’s a good guy,” Barth said.
