Golden Apple Award: Janice McDaniel, Oakwood Christian

CHICKAMAUGA , GA (WDEF) – First grade is big adjustment in a child’s life. The frivolity of kindergarten takes a back seat to more serious learning, but that doesn’t mean first grade can’t be fun. Oakwood Christian’s Janice McDaniel has poured her heart and soul into teaching for the past 25 years.

Vicki Garner is the  Pre-School and 1st Grade Supervisor at Oakwood Christian Academy.

She says, “Ms. McDaniels, one of the best teachers I’ve ever had the privilege to work with. She is Godly and diligent and pours everything she has into these students. She is a remarkable first grade teacher.”

When asked to describe herself, Mrs. McDaniel says, “I am someone who loves children. I love to help people. I love to see it when a child learns something new and when they get it. I have a amazing husband. We’ve been married 36 1/2 years. I have a son that’s 30, who’s married and a daughter that’s 27, and she’ll be getting married this summer.”

First Grader Everlyse Wooten says,  “She teaches math and science and yeah, we have lots of fun.”

Mrs. McDaniel explains, “I have the best job in the world. I worked with an amazing woman named Betty Payne, and she has since gone on to be with the Lord. But she watched me with other children and she God has gifted you to work with children. When they become older, I would like to see them still living their life for the Lord; making their decisions  according to his plan through them. And using what they have learned at Oakwood Christian Academy to direct their life and how they treat others.”
