Golden Apple Award: Jasmine Johnson, Tyner Academy

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Children learn in different ways. The best teachers figure out to reach each one of them. Tyner Academy’s Jasmine Johnson has a knack for helping every student perform their best. For that, she earned the Golden Apple Award.

Dr. Tiffany Earvin is the Principal at Tyner Academy.

She says, “So Jasmine Johnson is one of the best teachers I have ever worked with in Hamilton County schools. She is one of the teachers who spends most of her time, especially while she’s here and even after school hours, making sure that she’s got lessons planned out. She focused social, emotional, well-being, and her classes are very engaging and active.”

Ms. Johnson describes herself thusly, “Jasmine Johnson is someone who loves her students, someone who works extremely hard to make sure that every day that I’m coming and instilling in my kids everything that I have learned from teachers who I admire, and I just want them to be the best.”

Senior Aishe Reviere says, “I took her when I was a freshman. She was a very helping teacher. I struggled in her class sometimes, but she also helped me with all the work.”

Senior Mariah Caldwell adds, “I always see her in the hallways making sure that her students get the class on time. She lets them know that they need to be prepared for class.”

Senior Katreya Lewis says, “We was always doing something in class. We were just doing something all the time, and it was very interactive, and she always did it with us, so I never felt like we were just doing it by ourselves.”

Senior Jamarie Ballard adds, “She was very lenient working while with grades and stuff. Like, she will make sure that she helped you out to make sure you got what you needed.”

Ms. Johnson remembers, “My parents, of course, always motivated me. Initially, I did not want to become an educator. I’ve always loved English, love reading, love writing.”

Howard University Sophomore Kaylea Moore says, “She always like, posted our work. To like show this is my exemplary… my excellent work. I want to showcase y’all to everyone. She just loved us so much. And I love that she had so much passion for us as well.”

Ms. Johnson concludes, “I love the relationships that I build with my students. So, I have students that I’ve had previously who still reach out to me, and we have a conversation on a regular basis. I want them to remember the love that I have for them and that they could be anything that they want to be in life.”
