Golden Apple Award: Kassie Dockery, Park Creek Elementary
DALTON, GA (WDEF) – Parents describe Kassie Dockery as a wonderful and dedicated teacher. Her students at Park Creek Elementary know that she will always be there for them. Her patience, kindness and genuine love of teaching earned Ms. Dockery this week’s Golden Apple Award.
“Who is Kassie Dockery?” David Moore, News 12 Chief Photographer asked.
“I am a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a teacher. I have always wanted to be a teacher. It’s always been a passion that I’ve wanted to do,” Kassie Dockery, 1st Grade Teacher, Park Creek Elementary School said.
“So, Miss Dockery, um, she’s a veteran teacher at this point. She knows her kids. She builds great relationships with them. Uh, and every day she ensures that they get the best experience, not only academically, but also emotionally,” Headrick said.
Dockery says, “I’ve had some teachers in the past that have um always just went out of their way to be kind and caring. Um and I’ve just always wanted to be like them in my classroom. I want my students to feel safe and confident to be able to try and not be worried about making mistakes. Um I just wanted to give them a safe environment where they can come to school and learn like I had with a few of my teachers.”
“I like how she be kind and uh sweet and like always given a s a little surprise and doing fun things,” Yazlin Jimenez, 1st Grader, Park Creek Elementary School said.
“How is she as a teacher? How does she help you learn?” Moore asked.
“Well, when I get one answer wrong, I have to erase it or take it away,” Luna Molina, 1st Grader, Park Creek Elementary School said.
“I’d really like to say that she is such a sweet teacher and so respectful to where she is almost like the best teacher in the whole universe,” Nathaniel Woodward, 1st Grader, Park Creek Elementary School said.
“I mean, it’s not something I ever thought would be recognized because it’s just like I said of my passion, something that I want to do. I want to make others feel safe and want to come to school and learn. And I just want to be that person for them,” Dockery said.
