Golden Apple Award: Lisa Crowley, Gordon Lee Middle School

Chickamauga, GA (WDEF) – The best teachers always seem to go the extra mile for their students. Lisa Crowley does that every day, without ever losing her smile. That kind of dedication at positivity earned Ms. Crowley’s this week’s Golden Apple Award.

“Miss Crowley is a true success story.  She, worked here for a while as a Paraprofessional before she went back to school and got her degree.  Which is a great example for all of our kids, to see that through hard work she can achieve her goal,” said Chris Edge, the principal, at Gordon Lee Middle School.
“I wanted to prove to myself one, that I would not, that I don’t give up on things.  But I also wanted to show my kids you know that, you know not to give up on their dreams as well, and also to let others know that you’re never too old to follow your dreams,” said Lisa Crowley, our Golden Apple Award winner and Middle School Earth Science teacher at Gordon Lee Middle School.
“We know in science we must have what what? Evidence.”
“I am a mother, a wife, a and a teacher. Um, a friend. Um, and I’m, I, um, love life to the fullest,” said Crowley.
“I think she’s a great teacher.  I think she’s very selfless.  I think she does a great job.  And very much puts herself, before others, puts, her students before everybody else,” said Adam Crowley, Lisa Crowley’s husband.
“What can you tell me about mom that these kids don’t know?” asks News 12’s Chief Photographer, David Moore.
“They know everything,” said Deedy Crowley, Lisa Crowley’s daughter.
“Is she an open book?” asked Moore.
“Yes,” replied Deedy.
“Why is she such a good teacher?” asked Moore.
“Uh, I don’t know,” Deedy responded.
“How is she as a mom?” asked Moore.
“She’s really good,” said Deedy.
“She always puts the kids first.  She’s up later than I am, burning the midnight oils; preparing, making sure these kids like, have great experience in the class.  And always ask opinions like, hey is this cool enough? And all this stuff,” said Austin Crowley, Lisa Crowley’s son.
“What happened to the continents?”
“Just working here at Gordon Lee, and being a Parpro, I’ve been among many wonderful teachers that I’ve had the privilege of going into their classrooms.  And seeing their different teaching styles, and you know, they definitely have inspired me,” said Lisa.
‘What do you like about her?” asked Moore.
“Funny, very brain rot. And… good teacher,” said one student.
“Well she’s a great teacher isn’t she?” asked Moore.
“She’s not a great teacher? She’s not a good teacher?” asked Moore.
“She is,” said another student.
“She’s a great teacher.  I respect her. And, yeah.  She deserved this reward.  And the first day I met her she was really nice,” another student said.
“And she makes a difference by like getting us to know how like, getting us learning and,” one student commented.
“I really do care about each one of these kids.  And try my hardest to make sure that they are learning.  You know, doing what I need to do as a teacher for them as well so,” said Lisa.
