When asked why she became a librarian, Ms. Cairns says, “I had several really great, English teachers in high school. That formed my, love of words. I love to write as well. So, they encouraged me in my writing. My mom as well, she taught me how to read at two and a half. So she was my, first teacher. I had memorized a mother goose nursery rhyme book, and she decided it was time for me to learn how to read. So we should have known then that I might have been in, a book kind of position in education. It’s just never a dull moment. And I love that about young kids. You never know where our conversation they’re going to go, what connections they’re going to make with great books, what stories they’re going to share. It just as a source of joy. I mean, it’s unexpected. You definitely learn how to go with the flow and be flexible, but it’s a unique brand of joy that keeps me young and on my toes.”
