Golden Apple Award: Staci Camp, Hunter Middle School

OOLTEWAH, Tenn. (WDEF) – Staci Camp has been a part of Hunter Middle School since it opened in 1995. Mrs. Camp has a gift for understanding students and making learning fun. She even oversees the 8th grade trip to Washington D-C. So, we decided to honor this truly remarkable teacher with the Golden Apple Award.

Heidi Moses is the Principal at Hunter Middle.

She says, ” Mrs. Camp has been with Hunter Middle School since the opening in 1995. She has made a tremendous impact on our community, on our students and on our families in this community.”

When asked to describe herself, Mrs. Camp said, “A person who always wants her students to do their best. I’m married to Chris Camp. I have a daughter that’s 24 who just got married. I have a stepson that’s 27. He lives in Atlanta. I used to play school when I was little and that’s just what I wanted to do.”

8th grader Skylar Gray adds, “Mrs. Camp, she wants the best for all of her students, and she wants us to succeed.”

8th grader Karlee Hendeson chips in, “She’s very nice and she always wants us to do our best and will tell us if we don’t turn in something.”

8th grader Kylee Hunt says, “So, I like that she makes our work really fun. And when we’re learning about stories, she kind of brings it to life and she just makes school a lot funner than it already is.”

8th grader Owen Blankenship adds,” She’s a history teacher. She makes it a lot more fun. And she’s taken us to Washington, D. C.”

Mrs. Camp says, ” I Love to take my kids to D. C. It is such a valuable lesson for them. It’s so educational. We get to see our government and work in progress, I guess you should say. We visit all the Smithsonian’s, the Capitol, we go to the White House, we do all this educational stuff and the kids are like, ‘We learned this in class. We know this, we know this.’ And it’s just fun to see them being excited about things we’ve learned in class. I’ve been teaching for 33 years, so everywhere I go in this community, I run into somebody that I’ve previously taught and they will tell me all the time. Their best memory of their 8th grade was the DC trip.”

We asked what she hopes her students remember about her.

She responded, “That I cared about them. I always want them to do their best.”
