Golden Apple: Cherri Schrick
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Cherri Schrick works hard to make sure her kids are successful.
The Woodmore Elementary School teacher has high expectations for her students.
But those same kids inspired her after a tragic school bus crash hit home for the school.
It was November 21st of 2016, when that bus crash claimed the lives of 6 students from Woodmore Elementary.
The crash hit the community hard, including Schrick.
“It is, it is hard but my kids taught me that year that you have to push on. Our kids are so resilient. That they were a true inspiration to me. They kept me together that year. I remember one of my students walked in one day and he said Ms. Schrick you have got to stop crying; like I’m
gonna need you to get your stuff together, that’s right. And past that day I was like you know what. baby you’re right. Because we we’re still alive and I got to teach you math.”
Her students say she’s encouraging, and determined.
That’s what’s earned his this week’s Golden Apple Award.
