Golden Apple: Corey Lingerfelt, Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe High School
FORT OGLETHORPE, GA (WDEF) – Corey Lingerfelt always wanted to be a teacher. His latest stop is at Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe High School. He’s worked hard to become a role model for young men. Through his career as a teacher and a coach, he never stopped helping people. That kind of dedication earned Mr. Lingerfelt this week’s Golden Apple Award.
“Mr. Lingerfelt’s been a huge addition to our staff here at LFO. So he’s been here for a few years now and he’s a full believer in that growth mindset. He is a full representation of what it means to be an employee here at LFO,” said Brad Langford, the principal at LFO High School.
“Well, I am a father, husband, Christian, teacher. My number one goal in education is, and in life is just to make positive impacts. I grew up without a dad and so like being a dad to my daughter and a good husband for my wife is my number one goal in life and I know that a lot of our students do not have that opportunity as well and so I try and extend that courtesy to them as well. I try to be a positive role model to them at all points. And just lift them up even on their lowest day,” said Corey Lingerfelt, credit recovery at LFO High School.
“He keeps us stress-free environment; keeps me from getting off track, keeps me in check, gives us good jokes to, you know, dad jokes and stuff like that. Good dad jokes,” said Taylor Downey, a senior at LFO High School.
“I can tell you all kind of things about Mr. Lingerfelt. He’s a wonderful man, a wonderful teacher, and he sets a wonderful example for our students here at LFO High School. He really cares about them, and he’s really a joy to teach with,” said Trace Cline, a teacher at LFO High School.
“As I said, I grew up without a dad. And I was very blessed that when I was in high school I had a bunch of men at my church that just took me under their wing. And I don’t know that I’d be here today without them. They they’ve afforded me so many life lessons. I think about you know and just stuff like changing the oil in the car, or changing the battery, or what do you do about college. Because again I was the first one of my family to go to college. And so I had to lean on other people to you know learn those things; how to tie a tie you know. Those things are important and I… wasn’t blessed with one dad, I got multiple men to pour into me. And I was very thankful to, the men in my life. I try and be a guy to them that they can always come to you know, even on the bad days you know. I have kids now that they’ll still text me, you know, years later that after I’ve taught them. And that’s one of my number one goals is, I’m always here for you. Even if you don’t think you need somebody, you know, you can just always reach out,” said Lingerfelt.
