CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF) – The best teachers never stop learning. Dalewood Middle’s Hope Chapman is committed finding new ways to help her students be the best they can be. We found out how in this week’s Golden Apple Award.

Shalundra Shackelford is the Principal at Dalewood Middle.

She says, “Ms. Chapman is a wonderful, wonderful teacher. She gives her absolute best every day. She shows up ready to help our kids. And ready to make sure that they are good. She truly believes in every single kid at Delwood Middle School, and I appreciate that about her.”

Larry Crawford is the Assistant Principal.

He says, “Oh, she’s always working with kids. She wants to make sure that they all have their needs met and is a great co- teacher within the classrooms as well. She is always willing to go the extra mile for our kids and for our community.”

When asked to describe herself, Ms. Chapman,” I love when kids have light bulb moments, whenever they have a difficult time understanding a concept. But then it finally breaks through I love those moments.  I’m married. My husband’s name is Cameron. I have two dogs. So, that’s my family right there. I’m somebody I love being outside on the weekends, but really the favorite part of my week is being with kids at school.”

She continues, ” My first-grade teacher Miss Kimbrell she really um she took time with us. And she was so kind and caring and she influenced me to be a teacher. So, growing up um just I loved school, and so I love you know why not be a teacher. School never ends.”

Math teacher Tarrell Whiteside,” Having someone else in the classroom to help you out is a tremendous asset. Because if you’ve got multiple students that need assistance there only one of me. So having another certified teacher in the classroom is of great value, being able to help students when they all need help.”

Hope Chapman, “I co- teach 6 through 8th grade ELA. So, I have my sixth-grade class my seventh and eighth graders. So, I get to see all the kids in school. I want them to remember that always believe in them. And that they can do anything that they put their minds to. I’m just super grateful um for this opportunity and grateful to work at Delwood.”
