Gordon Lee Making Changes For Second Season in Class 3A
Chickamauga, GA
-(WDEF-TV) Gordon Lee jumped in with the big boys last season, joining the Class 3A ranks.
Trojans finished with a 4-6 record, but now they believe they’ve got a better blue-print for the bigger classification. Gordon Lee has the 30-in-30 spotlight.
With Gordon Lee making the leap from Class 1A to class 3A last year, of course it was a big adjustment.
Said head coach Josh Groce:”We’ve grown a lot because of the different type of competition we were facing. Being a single-A for Lord, since I’ve been coaching for 19 years. Then my 20th year we go in triple-A. Seeing the different types of offenses. Me being a defensive guy it changed my philosophies. Huge defensively.”
Said lineman Ben Gilliam:”I learned that physicality of high school football needs to be stepped up around here. So that’s what we are aiming to do.”
Gordon Lee is pumped for this fall because changes are coming to Trojans land.
Said Groce:”Things I’ve seen this year. There’s a lot of excitement because there is a lot of change in the things we are doing on the football field.”
Reporter:”Are there some of those changes you can speak about?”
Said Groce:”I try to keep those quiet. I’m keeping those secret until somebody does see us on film. Then they’ll know. Right now we are doing a lot of changes offensively and defensively.”
While the Trojans schemes may be a secret, it’s no secret they will have a young team.
Said Groce:”Yes we are a very heavy freshmen and sophomores.”
Reporter:”Uh that can be tough on a coach?”
Said Groce:”(chuckles) Yes. Yes it can unless they mature quickly. That’s what I told them all summer long. I’m not looking at your grade level. So if you are on the field, we expect you to make plays. I don’t expect you to play like freshmen and sophomores.”
