Gov. Ivey awarding grants to Alabama law enforcement agencies

FORT PAYNE, Ala. (WDEF) — Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded more than $600,000 to assist five police departments and sheriff’s offices.

The grants will assist these agencies in purchasing new equipment to improve public safety.

The Fort Payne Police Department is one agency receiving this funding.

Gov. Ivey has awarded $150,000 to the Fort Payne PD. Alabama officials said this funding will go to upgrading “technology to help the department and all law enforcement in DeKalb County respond quicker and be more prepared in emergency situations, including those pertaining to violent situations.”

The U.S. Department of Justice has made these funds available. The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants.

“Our law enforcement officers are often called upon to put their lives on the line to protect others,” Gov. Ivey said. “These grants will provide needed equipment upgrades to enable law enforcement personnel to perform their duties more safely and efficiently.”
