Gov. Kemp announces College & Career Academy for Walker County

WALKER COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp announced on Friday that a new College & Career Academy is coming to Walker County.

The State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia approved a $3 million grant to establish the new school.

According to Gov. Kemp, this new project is called “Walker Launch.” It will be a partnership between Walker County Schools and Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC).

Walker Launch will serve students in Walker and Dade Counties.

“To maintain our status as the No. 1 state for business, it’s crucial we support our valued and robust workforce,” said Gov. Kemp. “Walker Launch will help prepare students for new opportunities while connecting them with the jobs of tomorrow, and I appreciate all those who worked on bringing this project to fruition.”

Walker Launch will be the 58th College & Career Academy in Georgia.

These academies collaborate with more than 3,000 business partners.

College & Career Academies teach students skills to help them thrive in the workplace.

These schools teach students skills such as engineering, biomedicine, technology, logistics and robotics.
