NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WDEF) — On Monday, Governor Bill Lee announced his proposal to raise teacher salaries.

The Tennessee governor said this bill will increase salaries from $41,000 to $50,000.

The salary increase would happen over the next four years.

By fall of 2027, the legislation would raise teacher base salaries 42% from 2019.

During Lee’s first year in office, Tennessee minimum teacher salary was $35,000.

Governor Lee said he also wants to add $125 million more toward school pay increases next year.

Many teachers have to work 10 to 15 years to reach a $50,000 salary, according to Lee.
