Governor Bill Haslam Delivers 5th State of the State Address

(WDEF) Governor Bill Haslam promised to move full speed ahead during his fifth State of the State address tonight.
He used tonight’s State of the State and budget address to stress the importance of education.
The governor pointed to his "Drive to 55" initiative.
It’s goal is to increase the number of Tennesseans with a certificate or degree beyond high school.
His Tennessee Promise plays a big role in the goal.
Tonight he also promised to include adults into the plan.
The governor’s budget also included nearly $170-million for K-through-12 education.
Governor Haslam said, "The reason we continue to make these investments in education is we want Tennesseans to have the education, training and skills necessary to have a good, high quality and good paying job.  And we’re having a lot of success attracting those jobs to Tennessee."
The governor’s proposed budget includes $260-million in capital projects for higher education in Tennessee.
