Griffith Elementary School parent taken into custody following incident, drugs and weapons found in vehicle

SEQUATCHIE COUNTY — A Griffith Elementary School parent has been taken into custody following an incident on March 6, 2026.

In the morning hours, law enforcement responded to a situation in the school parking lot involving a parent and the individual was taken into custody along with another adult by local authorities, according to Sequatchie County Schools.

During the response, law enforcement discovered drugs and weapons inside the individual’s vehicle.

Sequatchie County Schools says at no time were students in direct danger.

As a precaution, the school was placed under a soft lockdown while law enforcement secured the scene and completed an initial investigation.

During a soft lockdown, exterior doors are secured while normal activities continue inside the building.

The lockdown was lifted once law enforcement confirmed the situation had been resolved.
