Grundy County approved for FEMA public assistance after April storms
GRUNDY COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Grundy County is now eligible for federal help after devastating storms and tornadoes swept through the region in early April.
On Thursday, April 19, 2025, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announced that President Trump approved a Major Disaster Declaration for areas impacted by the severe weather.
Nine counties were approved for FEMA’s Individual Assistance.
19 counties, including Grundy County, were approved for FEMA’s Public Assistance program.
This program provides funding to local governments and eligible nonprofits to help cover disaster-related costs.
“Securing a Major Disaster Declaration is a crucial step in getting our communities the help they need. We are grateful for the federal, state, and local partnerships that made this possible.”
-Patrick C. Sheehan, TEMA Director
The Public Assistance program may help cover expenses like debris removal, emergency response, and infrastructure repairs.
Local officials in Grundy County can now apply for reimbursements through the program.
The powerful storm system that triggered the declaration brought widespread damage to Middle and West Tennessee.
The storms claimed 10 lives and caused significant property damage across the state.
Governor Lee thanked federal partners for supporting Tennessee’s recovery efforts.
“State and local officials continue to provide critical support to Middle and West Tennesseans who face a long road to recovery. As the rebuilding process continues, I thank President Trump and our federal partners for granting resources to further our severe weather response and recovery.”
-Governor Bill Lee
Residents in counties approved for Individual Assistance—such as McNairy and Davidson—can apply for help with housing repairs, rental aid, and personal property replacement.
Grundy County residents are not currently eligible for Individual Assistance, but further evaluations could extend those benefits if needed.
Information and updates on FEMA’s assistance programs and how local entities can apply are available on the FEMA and TEMA websites.
