Grundy County sheriff appears before POST Commission
GRUNDY COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Grundy County Sheriff Heath Gunter got a scolding in Nashville from a fellow sheriff. Sheriff Gunter appeared before the POST Commission again on Friday.
His department has been called on the carpet since an inspection last fall found several deputies weren’t certified, and other paper-work issues.
They are making progress on the paperwork.
But POST Commission Chairman and neighboring Sheriff Chad Partin were blunt about Grundy County still using deputies on patrol who are on the DA’s list of untrustworthy officers.
“I’m going to go on and say it… you have hired some people that you shouldn’t have hired and that’s the reason you’ve gotten them, because nobody else wants them. Now Sheriff, we’re going to clean this act up or you’re not going to be in office,” said Coffee County Sheriff Chad Partin.
Sheriff Gunter disputes the DA’s claims against some of his deputies as hearsay complaints.
One of those deputies is his former chief deputy who has now been put back on patrol.
