Grundy County teacher arrested for aggravated statutory rape

Grundy County, TN (WDEF) – Grundy County Sheriff Clint Shrum confirms that Swiss Memorial Elementary School teacher Tommy Andrews was arrested Sunday night for aggravated statutory rape and aggravated statutory rape by an authority figure.

The Sheriff says the victim is not a current student of Andrews.

The Sheriff’s Office were recently notified about this allegation, and the investigation lead to enough evidence for them to get a warrant to arrest Andrews.

He’s been released on a $60,000 bond, but is required to wear a GPS monitor and not allowed to be near the victim.

The victim also has a device that will alert the victim if Andrews is nearby.

According to the school’s website, Andrews is a Science and Social Studies teacher for the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.

Grundy County School officials say Andrews is presumed innocent until proven guilty, but has been suspended pending this investigation.

They’re also offering counseling for the victim, and cooperating with law enforcement.
